Abstract:
To obtain a new compound which is at least same as a well-known mixture of 2,4,6-trimethyl-4-phenyl-1,3-dioxane isomers in the aromatic characteristics or useful as a perfume which strongly smells than the mixture as much as possible.
This (2RS, 4SR, 6X)-2,4,6-trimethyl-4-phenyl-1,3-dioxane is represented by formula I (X is RS) or formula II (X is SR). The compound of formula I is obtained by treating, e.g. a mixture of (2RS, 4SR, 6RS)-2,4,6- trimethyl-4-phenyl-1,3-dioxane with (2RS, 4RS, 6RS)-2,4,6-trimethyl-4-phenyl-1,3- dioxane with an acid, preferably Broensted acid at 20-30°C.
