NEW MATERIAL: 2,5-Disubstituted-1,3,5-thiazole derivatives excluding 2,5- bis[(phenylmethyl)-sulfonyl]-1,3,4-thiazole and represented by formula I (wherein R1 is an alkyl, an aralkyl which may have a substituent; R2 is an aryl, an aralkyl, an optionally benzene ring-fused heterocyclic group and these may have each a substituent).
EXAMPLE: 2-Methylsulfonyl-5-(4-chlorobenzylsulfonyl)-1,3,4-thiadiazole.
USE: An injurious organism controlling agent, paricularly a germicide and a fungicide.
PREPARATION: A partially novel compound of formula II is reacted with an oxidizing agent, if suitable, in the presence of a diluent and, if suitable, in the presence of a catalyst to obtain the compound of formula I. Further, the partially novel compound of formula II can be prepared from a compound of formula III and a compound of the formula XCH2R2 (wherein X is a halogen excluding Cl, Br), or from a compound of formula IV and a compound of the formula R2X.
