NEW MATERIAL: A compd. represented by formula I (wherein R1 is H, an alkyl, or a halogen; and R2 to R6 are each H, a halogen, an alkyl, an alkoxy, cyano, nitro, carboxyl, an alkoxycarbonyl an N-alkylcarboxamide, an acyl, amino, etc.).

USE: An antimicrobial agent, a bactericidal and antimildew agent.

PROCESS: A compd. represented by formula II is oxidized pref. with m- chloroperoxybenzoic acid as the oxidizing agent in a solvent (e.g. a halogenated hydrocarbon) at -20°C to 20°C to give a compd. represented by formula I.
