Title:
4-CYCLE ENGINE FOR OUTBOARD MOTOR
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3383825
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the durability of a belt transmission mechanism which drives a valve system by cooling the same.
SOLUTION: In a 4-cycle engine 1 for an outboard motor, in which a belt transmission mechanism 30, comprising sprockets 12, 17, 18 coupled respectively to the upper end of a vertically placed crankshaft 2 and the upper ends of two camshafts 14, 15 and an endless cam belt 23 wound on the sprockets 22, 17, 18, is covered by a cover 26, fans are formed at the cam sprockets 17, 18 coupled to the camshafts 14, 15, and the inside of the cover 26 is divided into two chambers S1, S2 defining both of the cam sprockets 17, 18, with one chamber S1 constructed as an intake duct into which fresh air is introduced and with the other chamber S2 constructed as an exhaust duct from which hot air is exhausted. Then the belt transmission mechanism 30 including the cam belt 23 or the like stored in the intake duct S1 is forcibly cooled by the fresh air flowing there, thus achieving the purpose.
