NEW MATERIAL:A compound (salt) of formulaI(R2 is H; R3 is methyl; R4 is H or OH;R5 and R6 are methyl;R7 is methoxyl when R1 is OH; R2 and R3 are groups forming an epoxyethane ring with the carbon atom at the 8-position; R4WR6 ar H;R7 is methoxyl when R1 is H; R2 is H;R3 is methyl; R4 is OH; R5 and R6 are methyl; R7 is OH when R1 is formula II).
EXAMPLE: 4"-Deoxyerythromycin A.
USE: An antimicrobial agent and an oral and injection remedy for infectious diseases of humans and animals caused by Gram-positive bacteria or microorganisms of the genus Mycoplasma.
PROCESS: The OH group at the 2'-position of an antibiotic substance, i.e. erythromycin A, of formula III is protected by a lower alkanoyl group, and a 1-imidazolylthiocarbonyl group is introduced into the OH group at the 4"-position of the resultant 2'-O-acyl-antibiotic substance. The 4"-(1-imidazolyl)thiocarbonyloxy group is then eliminated to afford a 2'-O-acyl-4"-deoxy antibiotic substance. The protecting group thereof is then eliminated.
