PURPOSE: To provide the novel compound useful as a raw material for 1-fluoro- t-2-oxy-1-r-cyclohexanecarboxylic ester derivatives as intermediates for herbicides.
CONSTITUTION: The derivative of formula I [R1 is H or C=O-R2 (R2 is lower alkyl or phenyl); R3 is lower alkyl], e.g. t-5-acetoxy-4-fluoro-4-r- cyclohexenecarboxylic ethyl ester. The compound of the formula I (where, R1 is C=O-R2) can be obtained by reaction between (A) a (2)-3-acyloxy-2 fluoroacrylic ester derivative of formula II and (B) 1,3butadiene. The compound of the formula I is brought into contact with hydrogen in the presence of a heterogeneous or homogeneous catalytic hydrogenation catalyst to obtain a 1-fluoro-t-2-oxy-1-r-cyclohexanecarboxylic ester derivative of formula III.
