NEW MATERIAL:Compounds of formula I [R1 is 1W11C alkyl, lower alkenyl, lower alkynyl, cycloalkyl, etc.; R2WR6 are H, halogen, cyano, nitro, amino, lower alkyl, etc.; R7 is H, halogen, lower alkyl, (substituted)phenyl, lower alkenyl, etc.; R8 is 1W11C alkyl, lower alkenyl, lower alkynyl, cycloalkyl, etc.; X is halogen].
EXAMPLE: 5-Allyl-4-chloro-N-(2,6-diethyl-4-methylphenyl)-2,6-dimethyl-3-pyridine carboxyamide.
USE: An effective component for herbicides. The compound exhibits excellent growth inhibiting actions to plants and used for herbicides in paddy fields, upland fields, fuilt gardens, non-agricultural fields, etc.
PREPARATION: 1,4-dihydro-4-oxo-3-pyridine carboxyamide compound of formula II is reacted with a halogenating agent in a solvent-free state or in a solvent to provide the compound of formula I wherein X is Br or Cl.
