PURPOSE: To provide a novel 4-oxoheptanedial derivative useful as an intermediate for the production of various drugs.
CONSTITUTION: An oxoheptanedial of formula I (R is CHO, protected CHO), an arylsulfonylaminomethylene-4-oxoheptanedial of formula II (Ar is phenyl, substituted phenyl), and 4-oxoheptanedial actal of Formula III [R1 is alkyl, aralkyl, alkylene, and when R1 is alkylene, two R1 bonded to the same carbon atom form a ring (the ring may be substituted)], e.g. 4-oxoheptanedial tetramethylacetal, and the acetal compound of 3-arylsulfonylaminomethyl-4- oxoheptanedial of formula IV. The employment of the 4-oxoheptanedial derivatives of formulas I-IV permits to readily and inexpensively produce a pyrrole derivative or indole derivative which are useful as an intermediate for various drugs such as pindolol and industrial products.
