NEW MATERIAL:A compound expressed by formula I (R represents 2W25C alkyl).
EXAMPLE: 4,4'-Di-O-decyl-α,α-trehalose.
USE: A carcinostatic agent.
PREPARATION: For example, 1mol 2,3,2',3'-tetra-O-benzyl-6,6'-di-O-trityl-α,α- trehalose expressed by formula II (Bn represents benzyl; ph represents phenyl) is reacted with 2W6mol compound expressed by the formula RX (X is halogen atom), e.g. decyl bromide, etc., in a solvent, e.g. DMF, etc., in the presence of a base, e.g. sodium hydride, etc., at room temperature W 120°C for 1W100hr to obtain a compound expressed by formula III, which is catalytically reduced in a solvent, e.g. ethanol, etc., using a catalyst, e.g. palladium black, etc., in an amount of 0.05W1pt.wt. based on 1pt.st. compound expressed by formula III at room temperature W 70°C for 1W50hr.
