Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide an 1-arylaminoindole compound having a hydroxy group and an alkoxy group 5 and 6-positions, respectively, and useful as a raw material for leuco dyestuffs used for agricultural chemicals, drugs, dyes and various recording materials.
CONSTITUTION: (1) An 1-arylamino-5-hydroxy-6-alkoxyindole. (2) A process for producing the 1-arylamino-5-hydroxy-6-alkoxyindole, comprising a diazo coupling reaction step in which a phenol derivative having an unsaturated double bond and an alkoxy group at 3 and 6-positions, respectively, is reacted with a diazonium salt under a basic condition and a post treatment process under an acidic condition.
