Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide the new compounds comprising 6-piperazinyl-1H- pyrazolo[3,4-b]pyridine-3-carboxylic acids which are selective inhibitors of the reuptake of the serotonin and useful for treating depression, obsessive compulsive disorder or the like.
CONSTITUTION: The objective 6-piperazinyl-1H-pyrazolo[3,4-b]pyridine-3- carboxylic acids of formula V (X is H, CN, COOH, COOR3 or CONR4R5) are obtained by reacting pyrazolo[3,4-b]pyridine compounds of formula I (R1 and R4 are each H, lower alkyl or aryl lower alkyl; R5 is H or lower alkyl), formula II or formula III with a compound of formula IV (R2 is H, lower alkyl or hydroxy-substituted lower alkyl; (n) is 1 or 2), then, if necessary, reacting the resultant compound with trifluoroacetic acid and further, if necessary, reacting the resultant compound with a compound of the formula R3-OH (R3 is lower alkyl).
