Abstract:
To easily obtain a new 9(Z)-retinoic acid derivative important for cancer therapy while minimizing the toxic side effect of free 9(Z)-vitamin A acid.
This new compound is expressed by the formula [Y is OCR12- CO-R2 (R1 is H, a 1-20C alkyl, etc.; R2 is a 1-4C alkyl, etc.)], e.g. 2-[9(Z)- retinoyloxy]-4'-methyl-acetophenone. The illustrated compound is obtained by agitating 2-chloro(4'-methyl)acetophenone and (Z)-retinoic acid in dimethylformamide as solvent while blocking rays of light in a nitrogen atmosphere for 24h followed by adding water to the resultant reaction product and then further agitation for 2h.
