Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an AC-igniter with an auxiliary chamber showing a superior ignition stability and a superior durability.SOLUTION: This invention relates to an AC-igniter 6 with an auxiliary chamber installed at an internal combustion engine 7 comprising a central electrode 1; a dielectric insulator 2; a housing 3; a ground electrode 30; an auxiliary chamber cover 4 defining an auxiliary combustion chamber 40 communicated with a main combustion chamber 70; and an AC power source 5. Mixture gas is ignited with a streamer discharge STR generated in the auxiliary combustion chamber 40. Combustion gas is injected into the main combustion chamber 70 to perform an ignition for the internal combustion engine 7. The dielectric insulator 2 comprises a dielectric leg 20, a dielectric barrel 21, a dielectric large diameter part 22 and a dielectric head part 23. The auxiliary chamber cover 4 comprises a peripheral wall part 41, a plurality of aeration holes 42 and an opening part 43. A lower half part of the dielectric leg 20 is protruded from the opening part 43 toward the main combustion chamber 70.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1A
