Abstract:
To provide a composition and a method for directly producing melanin without activating tyrosinase.SOLUTION: There are provided: a composition for producing AGE-derived melanin which consists of AGE-modified collagen in which collagen is glycated; and an AGE-derived melanin-producing agent comprising the composition. The composition comprises methylglyoxal, glyoxal, or 3-deoxyglucosone. There is also provided an AGE-derived melanin production method that comprises administering AGE-modified collagen to a subject. Preferably, the saccharification is due to monosaccharides. The monosaccharides include at least glucose (dextrose), galactose, mannose, and fructose. Glucose and fructose are preferable as the monosaccharide for saccharification, but glucose is particularly preferable. Since the composition and the method are useful for acquiring melanin produced by a new mechanism, they are also useful for the development of a new material.SELECTED DRAWING: None
