This device comprises a mode changeover switch 17 for switching a general mode for drive-controlling an electric motor 4 to open and close an opening and closing member 6 by a controller 11 on the basis of the opening signal from an opening switch 14 or the closing signal from a closing switch 15 to an abnormality alarming mode. In the abnormality alarming mode, the controller 11 transmits an abnormality alarm signal SO, on the basis of the abnormality detection signal SI from an obstacle sensing sensor 10 for detecting an abnormality when forcedly opening the opening and closing member 6 in the closing completed state of the opening and closing member 6 or a motor lock current detection part 21, to report the abnormality through a buzzer 22 or an external output device 23. In the general mode and the abnormality alarm mode, the obstacle sensing sensor 10 and the motor lock current detection part 21 are shared.
