Title:
ABRASIVE AMOUNT DETECTING METHOD OF OPTICAL FIBER
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS61226263
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To make grinding allowance control at several μ unit performable, by installing a proximity sensor in a holder attaching a ferrule of an optical fiber, attaching a test bar to this holder, and finely adjusting a controller of the proximity sensor, then detecting completion of an abrasive amount.

CONSTITUTION: A proximity sensor S, detecting a proximate situation with an abrasive disc 11, is installed in a holder 2 attaching a sample ferrule F or the like of an optical fiber. In advance of end face polishing, when a test bar T in reference length is attached to the holder 2, it is set so as to have a detection signal transmitted out of a controller C of the proximity sensor S. Next, when the sample ferrule F on the holder 2 come to the same size as the preset test bar T, it transmits a detection signal ON and detects an abrasive amount by means of in-process detection. Therefore, the sample ferrule F is merely enough to be attached to the holder 2 and subject to polishing alone, so that an end of polishing is informable with a completion signal of the abrasive amount to be emitted out of the proximity sensor S.
