In an accelerator opening detection device 1, a signal VPA output from the accelerator position sensor 10 is smoothed by using a first smoothing coefficient to obtain a signal PDLAD (step S31), and the signal VPA output from the accelerator position sensor 10 is smoothed by using a second smoothing coefficient larger than the first smoothing coefficient to obtain a signal PDLSM (step S32). Accelerator opening is calculated based on difference between the signal PDLAD and a learning value GPDL (step S33), and if the accelerator opening PDLA satisfies a predetermined update condition (step S34), the learning value GPDL is updated based on the sinal PDLSM (step S35).
