The echo canceler for canceling echoes, generated from output signals returned to an input of an acoustic apparatus after once outputted therefrom, comprises an adaptive filter performing a reckoning operation of variable portions of frequency characteristics and phase characteristic on acoustic paths and a coefficient fixed filter for simulating fixed portions of a frequency characteristics and phase characteristics on acoustic paths and a memory for storing filter coefficients read by the coefficient fixed filter, corresponding to the acoustic characteristics fixed portions.
