To obtain the subject medicinal agent having excellent activating actions on mitochondrial functions, capable of exhibiting excellent pharmacokinetics and useful as a prophylactic and a therapeutic agents, etc., for neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson's disease or Alzheimer's disease by including a benzo-condensed ring-containing compound.
This medicinal agent is obtained by including a compound represented by the formula [R1 and R2 are each a 1-6C alkyl or together may mutually be bound to form a ring; X is a spacer having 1-15 number of atoms of the main chain; Y is an acyl, a (substituted)OH, a (substituted)amino or the like; the ring A is a 5- to an 8-membered ring in which substituent groups other than X-Y can further be contained; G1 and G2 are each H or a protecting group of phenolic OH cleavable in vivo] or its salt {e.g. 7-[2-(4-chlorophenoxy) ethyl]-2,3-dimethoxy-1,4-bis[(3-pyridylcarbonyl)oxy]-6,7,8,9-tetrahydro-5H- benzocycloheptene) in an amount of preferably 0.1-100 wt.% based on the whole.
