Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase opportunities for idling stop while satisfying followability with respect to a preceding vehicle.SOLUTION: A controller U exerts an active cruise control for following travel over entire vehicle speed ranges. For example, if a camera S2 or the like detects a preceding vehicle VA at a stop, the controller U estimates an inertial free running distance LKK that is a distance a vehicle can travel through inertia in a state in which an engine is stopped and a brake is not actuated. The controller U controls the engine to automatically stop by idling stop at timing at which the estimated inertial free running distance LKK is not longer than a detected, actual following distance LV. The engine may be automatically stopped by the idling stop when an addition value LX obtained by adding a predetermined margin distance to the inertial free running distance LKK is not longer than the actual following distance LV.
