Abstract:
PURPOSE:To eliminate the defect of a picture element unit, to improve the mass-productivity, and to produce a large-area substrate by connecting the picture element electrode of the picture element unit to specific data lines through built-in capacitors or nonlinear elements. CONSTITUTION:Horizontally (x) and vertically (y) picture element units 6 are arranged in a matrix. Then thin substrate has (y+1) horizontal scanning lines and two data lines for each picture element unit 6, i.e. 2x data lines in total, and the picture element electrode 7 of the picture element unit 6 in an mn address (1<=m<=x and 1<=n<=y) is connected to (2m-1)d and (2m)d data lines through built-in capacitors 3 and 4 or nonlinear elements 1 and 2. Further, (n)th and (n+1)th scanning lines and the picture element electrode 7 are connected through the nonlinear elements 1 and 2 or built-in capacitors. Consequently, no picture element unit 6 becomes defective and the large-area substrate can be produced with good mass-productivity.
