Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an active matrix type liquid crystal display device which adopts an IPS system using short pitch transparent comblike electrodes, and which realizes almost equal transmittance to that of a device using a liquid crystal material having negative dielectric anisotropy (comparable with a TN system) by using a liquid crystal having positive dielectric anisotropy which makes low driving voltage, fast response and lower cost possible.
SOLUTION: A liquid crystal composition used has positive dielectric anisotropy, ≥2.4 ratio of K11/K22, wherein K11 is the elastic modulus for splay deformation and K22 is the elastic modulus for twist deformation, and ≥8 dielectric anisotropy and ≤110 mPa.s rotational viscosity coefficient. The retardation d-Δ n is controlled to satisfy 0.28 μm<d.Δn<0.5 μm.
