To provide a liquid crystal display(LCD) device removing uneven display and having high contrast.
In the active matrix LCD device holding a liquid crystal(LC) layer between a pair of substrates 1, 1' at least one of which is transparent, orientation processing using both of rubbing and light irradiation is executed, LC orientation capacity is applied also to a large level difference part ≥0.1 μm around an electrode group and a black matrix and a transmissivity at black display is set up to ≤0.4% to attain high contrast. An organic high molecular material capable of applying LC orientation capacity by rubbing and light irradiation is used for an orientation control film 8. It is also available to mix an organic high molecular material capable of applying LC orientation capacity by rubbing and an organic material capable of applying orientation capacity to light irradiation and use the mixture for the film 8.
