Abstract:
To provide an actuator which has a gel layer containing a dielectric polymeric material free of halogen elements and has a large displacement in response to an applied voltage; and a gelatinous substance that can be used for the gel layer.SOLUTION: A gel actuator 1 has a unit structure consisting of: a gel layer 10 comprising a dielectric polymeric material and a dicarboxylic acid diester compound; and a positive electrode 11 and a negative electrode 12 between which the gel layer is interposed in the thickness direction. The dielectric polymeric material is a polyvinyl butyral having a number-average molecular weight from 60000 to 150000 inclusive.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
