Abstract:
NEW MATERIAL: Optically active 2-hydroxy-3-(4-alkyloxyphenyl)-3-(2- aminophenylthio)propionate.
EXAMPLE: Methyl (+)578-(2S,3S)-threo-2-hydroxy-3-(4-methoxyphenyl)-3-(2- aminophenylthio)propionate.
USE: An intermediate producing benzothiazepine. Benzothioazepine is useful as a tranquilizer, an antihypertensive and a vasodilator.
PROCESS: A compd. represented by formula I (wherein n is 0-3; R is H or lower alkyl, etc.; R5 is H or lower alkyl) and a compd. represented by formula II (wherein R2 is lower alkyl and R4 is acyclic alkyl) are reacted in a solvent such as toluene at 80-140°C (pref., 100°C or higher) for 2-7 hr to obtain a compd. represented by formula III.
