PURPOSE: To provide a new compound having an excellent antiviral activity and useful as an antiviral agent.
CONSTITUTION: The objective compound of formula I [R1 to R3 are H, R4O (CH2)m-, group of formula II (R4 is H, hydroxyl group-protecting group: R5 is H, alkyl: m, n are 1-3), but at least one of R1 to R3 is R4O(CH2)m-, group of formula II: X, Y and Z are H, OH, amino, etc.,]. For example, (E)-9-(3- hydroxypropenyl)guanine. The compound of formula I is obtained e. g. by reacting of formula III [R6 to R8 are R13O(CH2)m-, group of formula IV (R13 are hydroxyl group-protecting group: R14 is alkyl); R9 is methanesulfonyl, benzenesulfonyl, etc.,] with a compound of formula V [R10 to R12 are, halogen, etc.,) in the presence of a base such as triethylamine in an aprotic solvent such as dioxane and subsequently reacting the reaction product with a base.
