PURPOSE: To prevent unsuppressed signals due to the nonlinearity of an echo path or approximate echo path so as to realize echo suppression whose operation is stable, by providing a signal amplitude limiter to the received signal input device of an echo suppression device.

CONSTITUTION: An echo signal suppression circuit 109 implements an approximate echo signal approximate to an echo in accordance with a received signal supplies the approximate echo signal to a subtractor 108. The subtractor 108 subtracts the approximate echo signal from an actual transmitted signal including an echo and outputs the difference signal to a terminal 104 through a DA converter 207 as an unsuppressed signal. In this case, an amplitude limiter 201 is provided, and the scale of inputted signals is limited. Therefore, the signal path 107 from a received signal branching point 105 to the subtractor 108 and the other signal path 106 from the branching point 105 to the subtractor 108 maintain linearity and input in the subtractor 108. Accordingly, the approximate echo signal approximating an echo can be expressed by linear connection and unsuppressed signals can be reduced.
