Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain an apparatus capable of applying an adhesive to the side and spine of a book at a single station by controlling the supply of the adhesive to the book side.
CONSTITUTION: A nozzle 30 for coating a spine of a book 11 is provided with adjustable side sealing jaws 12 and 13 for adjusting the nozzle width for different book thicknesses and having separate side adhesive outlets 66 and 67 for applying an adhesive to the book side. Adhesive flow control valves are positioned between the nozzle and the outlets and cut off or control the adhesive to be supplied to the book side selectively and independently.
