Abstract:
To provide agents for activating biodefense genes by a Keap1-Nrf2 system, which are safe to take for a long time, can be used as a food and drink, and have excellent active action of biodefense genes by the Keap1-Nrf2 system.SOLUTION: Provided are an agent for activating biodefense genes by a Keap1-Nrf2 system containing as an active ingredient Barley young leaves containing a specific component, or a processed product thereof, and a food or drink comprising the activating agent. Such activating agent and food and drink enhance the antioxidant biodefense and detoxification ability of a living body because of having the action of activating biodefense genes by the Keap1-Nrf2 system, and is expected to have effects such as the prevention or improvement (treatment) of various diseases involving oxidative stress, and the prevention or improvement (treatment) of a disease or condition (symptom) caused by reduced activity of the biodefense gene expression by the Keap1-Nrf2 system.SELECTED DRAWING: None
