PURPOSE: An agent against mutagenesis important for preventing carcinogenesis, deactivating mutagenesis, containing coenzume A, a type present in vivo of pantothenic acid, as an active ingredient.
CONSTITUTION: An agent against mutagenesis containing coenzyme A such as a compound shown by the formula I as an active ingredient. Coenzyme A inhibits completely mutagenesis of N-methyl-N'-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine, a carcinostatic substance in the stomach and the intestine, when 150 times as much the compound shown by the formula I as the nitrosoguanidine by molar amount is used. It also deactivates 90wt% benz[a]pyrene having strong carcinogenesis on the liver and the skin when 10 times as much the compound as benz[a]pyrene by molar amount is used. Namely, coenzyme A is found to deactivate mutagenesis of carcinostatic substance and effective as an agent against mutagenesis. Coenzyme A is a type present in vivo of pantothenic acid shown by the formula II, safe, has effects as vitamin, and is usable in the field of drug and food.
