Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a finishing agent capable of giving the optimal friction- preventing characteristics and the optimal surface electric conductivity, when the cables of synthetic filaments, especially polyacrylic filaments, are cut to produce the staple fibers, by mixing a polyethylene dispersion, a dicarboxylic acid half ester salt and an anionic surfactant.

CONSTITUTION: This agent for finishing the surfaces of synthetic fibers comprises (A) 5-40% (based on dried residues) of a polyethylene dispersion, (B) 5-40% of a dicarboxylic acid half ester salt, and (C) 30-70% of an anionic surfactant. The finishing agent is imparted to the synthetic fibers, especially spun and drawn polyacrylonitrile filaments, for example, before crimped or when cut to produce the staple fibers, by an immersion method in a 0.1-0.5% solution or by a spray method. Thereby, the satisfactory cut patterns and travel characteristics of the synthetic fibers can be obtained. The half ester salt is obtained, for example, by reacting a dicarboxylic acid anhydride (for example, maleic acid) with an alcohol and subsequently neutralizing the second carboxyl group with an alkali.
