Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject agent which can recover the barrier function and the moisture-retaining function of skin by including as an active ingredient a physiologically active substance contained in a plant belonging to the genus Eucalyptus.
SOLUTION: This agent for stimulating the production of ceramide comprises a macrocarpal derivating of formula I (R is a sesquiterpene residue). Compounds of formulas II to V are new compounds among the derivative of formula I. The derivative of formula I can preferably be obtained by extraction-treating the leaf portions of a plant belonging to the genus Eucalyptus preferably with a polar solvent, and is obtained, for example, by finely cutting the leaves of Eucalyptus globulus Labillardiere, adding a mixture of ethanol with water to the finely cut leaves, immersing the finely cut leaves in the mixture liquid at room temperature for 7 days, filtering the immersed mixture, and then separating and purifying the filtrate by a proper separating and purifying means. The agent for stimulating the production of ceramide is preferably compounded with a medicine or a cosmetic in an amount of 0.0001 to 10 wt.%, especially 0.001 to 1 wt.%, based on the total amount of the composition as the derivative of formula I.
