Abstract:

To provide a method of identifying an agent that modulates an immune response.

Using the method, interaction between B7 polypeptide and PD-1 ligand is blocked. The method includes abutting of an immune cell having PD-1 ligand or that having B7 polypeptide on the agent for blocking the interaction between the PD-1 ligand and the B7 polypeptide. The interaction between the B7 polypeptide and the PD-1 ligand polypeptide prevents bonding of the PD-1 ligand to the PD-1, thus blocking transmission of a blocking immune signal. The agent for blocking the interaction between the PD-1 and the PD-1 ligand can block transmission of the blocking signal. The agent for blocking the bonding of the PD-1 ligand to the B7 polypeptide allows the PD-1 ligand to be bonded to the PD-1, provides the immune cell with the blocking signal, and reinforces blocking of signal transmission.
