To provide an air-assisted fuel injection type internal combustion engine capable of preventing the performance of an air cleaner from being lowered and the service life thereof from being shortened.

This air-assisted fuel injection type internal combustion engine comprises an air injection means 110 injecting air into a combustion chamber 11, an air cleaner 70 purifying external air, a compressor 80 leading pressurized air to an air jetting means 110, a regulator 90 regulating the pressure of the air by releasing an excess air when the pressure of the pressurized air from the compressor 80 exceeds a prescribed pressure, and an excess air passage 66 leading the excess air from the regulator 90 to the air cleaner 70. The inlet side space Sa of the air cleaner 70 is partitioned into a first space Sa1 communicating with an inlet opening Ha and a second space Sa2 communicating with an excess air passage 66. The second space Sa2 comprises a moisture collecting part 100.
