The air conditioner has a control circuit 108a which starts the operation of a preset compressor 101 out of two compressors 101, 102 when the air conditioning operation is started, starts the operation of the remaining compressor 102 when the air conditioning load based on a temperature difference between the detection temperature of a room temperature thermistor 112 and the preset temperature becomes a fixed value, calculates average efficiency to the air conditioning loads by the operation of the two compressors 101, 102, calculates the number of rotations corresponding to the efficiency of each of the compressors 101, 102 respectively when the average efficiency is obtained, and operates the compressors 101, 102 at the respective numbers of rotations.
