Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain an air filter with the collection efficiency improved and flow resistance reduced by treating the melt-blown fiber accumulated from a nozzle with a needle roll to shorten the fiber and to convert the fiber to an electret and forming the filter with the electret.
CONSTITUTION: An air filter consisting of a melt-blown fiber 5 is produced. In this case, the diameter of the fiber is controlled to 0.1-10μm and the length to 1-30 mm. An additive such as polystyrene and polyvinylidene chloride is added to the accumulated fibers 5 by 5-8wt.%, the fibers are mechanically torn off by a needle roll 2 rotating at a high speed, scoured and converted to an electret to obtain the short fibers. The short fibers are accumulated in the form of cotton to obtain a web of specified unit weight. Consequently, the short fibers are uniformly and three-dimensionally distributed to form a porous body, and a good-quality filter is obtained.
