To incorporate an air maintenance function for reexpansion into a tire, so as to supplement normal air diffusion brought about with the passage of time.
An air maintenance tire includes: a carcass 12; a flexible tire component (chafer strip 70) which has a channel 90 configured in an upside surface defined by two opposed strip lip parts 82, 84 and a channel bottom wall 86; an air passageway 238 which is extended between a cavity 132 of an air inlet and a cavity 134 of an air outlet and extended along at least a partial circumferential path around the carcass, in the flexible tire component; and a strip assembly 104 for formation of the passageway, which occupies the inside of the air passageway of the flexible tire component, which is hermetically sealed in the air passageway, and which is operative to configure and maintain the air passageway in such a cross-sectional configuration as to duplicate a cross-sectional configuration of the strip assembly.
