To obtain a medicament, containing a specific alcohol or aldehyde derivative, which is a new compound except specified ones, as an active ingredient, having a selective antagonism to cathepsin L and reducing a bone resorption by acting directly on a bone.
This medicament is obtained by using a compound represented by formula I [R1 is H, an arylalkyl, etc.; R2 and R3 are each H or a hydrocarbon residue; R4 is an alkanoyl, sulfonyl, etc.; X is CHO, etc.; (m) and (n) are each 0 or 1] or the salt thereof. The compound of formula I is especially N-(1- naphthylsulfonyl)-(L)-isoleucyl-(L)-tryptophanal, etc. The compound of formula I except either N-(1-naphthylsulfonyl)-(L)-isoleucine-(L)-triptophanal or its salt is a new one. This new compound is obtained, for example, by reacting a compound of formula II (R4 is an alkanoyl, carbonyloxy, etc.) or its reactive derivative with a compound of formula III and further optionally by performing an oxidation reaction of the product or a protecting reaction of OH.
