Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a linear feedback shift register having versatility to be varied for a desired application even in use according to a code theory and a cipher theory, and to provide a linear shift register capable of reducing cost in a system using linear feedback shift registers of both Galois and Fibonacci types.SOLUTION: The linear feedback shift register comprises: tap selection means for selecting a tap which outputs bits subjected to exclusive OR and affecting input bits; and feedback start position selection means for selecting a bit in a bit stream to be a start bit of a feedback loop. By selecting a tap through the tap selection means, terms of a polynomial to be implemented in the linear feedback register are specified and by setting a start position of the feedback loop through the feedback start position selection means, a maximum degree of the polynomial is determined.
