To provide an aliphatic resin which is controlled with respect to the softening point and the molecular weight and which is useful for imparting tackiness; a manufacturing method thereof; and a pressure-sensitive adhesive composition containing this resin.
The aliphatic resin based on petroleum has (a) a ring and ball (RB) softening point of 75-110C; (b) a weight-average molecular weight (Mw) of 1,000-2,600 dalton, a z-average molecular weight (Mz) of 1,900-5,000 dalton, and an Mw/Mn of 2.0 or less; (c) such an aromatic proton level to the whole protons as measured by 1H-NMR of 1.5% or less; and (d) a cloud point at a mixed methylcyclohexane-aniline (MMAP) of 90C or lower. The resin has a very large number of cyclic structures. The method for manufacturing an aliphatic resin composition by polymerization of a supply material based on petroleum comprises such a method for increasing the amount of cyclic structures of the resin as an independent control of an RB softening point and a molecular weight of the composition during the manufacturing.
