To provide gates in which all the logic output signals are optically generated.
The all-optical gates have an OR gate, including first and second input media to receive first and second optical input signals, and a first combining medium for combining the first and second optical input signals; and a NOT gate, including a third input medium to receive a first optical output signal as a third optical input signal; a fourth input medium to receive a fourth optical input signal having constant continuous wave (CW) light; a second combining medium for combining a combining signal from the third and fourth optical input signals, and a first nonlinear element to output the CW light as a second optical output signal, having a high logic level in the case in which the combining signal has a low logic level, and not to output light as the second optical output signal in the case in which the combining signal has the high logic level. The OR gate and the NOT gate are mounted in a photonic crystal, the first to fourth input media and the first and second combining media are defined by absence of any structure inside the photonic crystal, and the first nonlinear element is optically arranged, between the output side of the second combining medium and the input side of the optical output medium.
