Abstract:
PURPOSE: To improve the metallic luster of a flaky iron oxide by controlling the average particle diameter of the primary particle of the oxide and removing fine particles of ≤20μm in diameter.
CONSTITUTION: The subject α-iron oxide is composed of a flaky iron oxide having an average primary particle diameter of 30-200μm and free from fine particles having particle diameter of ≤20μm. The flaky iron oxide can be produced e.g. by oxidizing iron powder in an aqueous solution of a caustic alkali at ≥210°C. The objective α-ferrous oxide having excellent metallic luster is produced by fractionating the obtained flaky iron oxide.
