Abstract:
PURPOSE: To reduce time for accessing the alternating sector of a defective sector.
CONSTITUTION: When a defective sector occurs at the user region of a storage, the alternating sector at an exchange region closest to the defective sector is retrieved, it is judged whether the retrieved exchange sector is available or not, and then the alternate processing is performed when the exchange sector is available, thus reducing the access distance to the sector.
