Title:
ALUMINUM-BASED COMPOSITE MATERIAL HAVING THREE-DIMENIONAL SILICON CARBIDE SKELETON
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH06145840
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain the subject composite material having isotropically high strength and Young's modulus and hardly reducing its strength at high temp. by filling an Al-based material into the pores in a porous body of silicon carbide having prescribed porosity, pore diameter and bending strength.

CONSTITUTION: An Al-based material is filled into the pares in a porous body of silicon carbide having 30-70vol.% porosity, 0.002-2mm pore diameter and ≥10MPa bending strength to obtain the objective Al-based composite material having a three-dimensional silicon carbide skeleton. This composite material has isotropically high strength and Young's modulus, hardly reduces its strength even at high temp. above the softening point of Al and is widely utilized as the material of the head of a golf club and skis.
