Title:
ALUMINUM-BASED COMPOSITE MATERIAL AND ITS MANUFACTURE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP2000129374
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

To provide a titanium carbide particle diffusion-reinforced aluminum- based composite material improved in wear resistance, and its manufacturing method.

Relating to an aluminum-based composite material, composite particles in which a carbon particle is surrounded with titanium carbide particles are diffused in a matrix of aluminum or aluminum alloy. A manufacturing method of the aluminum-based composite material includes a process in which the carbon particles is mixed with a molten metal by adding the carbon particles in molten aluminum or molten aluminum alloy containing titanium, and giving the ultrasonic vibration to the molten metal and performing the whirl agitation, and the carbon in the carbon particles is in-situ reacted with molten titanium to generate the titanium carbide. The carbon particles are added so that the content of carbon and titanium in the molten metal satisfies the weight ratio of C/Ti>0.2.
