Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide aluminum hydroxide filler for polyolefins, which has improved reinforcing properties, by trating the surface of aluminum hydroxide with vinyl tris (β-methoxyethoxy) silane.
CONSTITUTION: Aluminum hydroxide having an average particle size of 1.5μ or below (trihydrate of Al2O3.3H2O) is introduced into an alcohol soln. of vinyl tris (β-methoxyethoxy) silane while stirring the soln. The alcohol is volatilized. The resultant solid is dried and crushed to obtain surface-treated aluminum hydroxide powder. Said silane compd. is used in an amount of 0.5W5pts.wt. per 100pts.wt. aluminum hydroxide.
