A carrier signal forming circuit 22 is provided for forming a quadrature carrier signal SQD from an AM intermediate frequency(IF) signal SAM, and an circuit 21 is provided for adding the AM IF signal SAM and the quadrature carrier signal SQD. This device is provided with a limiter 23 for fixing the amplitude of an output signal SWA from the adder circuit 21 and a phase detection circuit 24 for detecting the phase of an output signal from the limiter 23. A correction circuit 25 is provided for correcting the distortion of an output signal Sθ from the phase detection circuit 24. An AM detection circuit 32 is provided for performing AM detection to the AM IF signal SAM. This device is provided with a switching circuit 41 for selectively extracting the output signal of the correction circuit 25 or the output signal of the AM detection circuit 32 and a formation circuit 52 for forming a control signal S52, according to the reception level of the AM IF signal SAM. The switch circuit 41 is controlled by the control signal S52.
