PURPOSE: To perform image processing of high accuracy in which the peripheral edge parts of images are distinctly reproduced by bisecting and storing input image information in the space modulator of positive type and space modulator of negative type and combining these at the reproducing.

CONSTITUTION: Parallel light 1 is transmission radiated to an imput inage negative 2 and the image is bisected by a half mirror 5. The light advancing straightforward is imaged on the face of a space modulating element 7 of positive type. On the other hand, the light bent sideward by the half mirror 5 is entered to the space modulating element 16 of negative type provided in the position deviated by a minute distance d from the position conjugate with the space modulating element 7, whereby the image is formed in the state of out-of-focus by as much as the distance d. To reproduce the images having been stored in this way, the light from a laser light source 12 is bisected by a beam splitter 11 and the bisected beams are rediated to the space modulating elements 7, 16 respectively, whereby the image informations having been stored in the respective elelments are imaged as positive images on the recording medium 3 disposed in place of the input image negative 2.
