To obtain a new compound rich in color, excellent in color mixing properties, having high stability and a high solubility especially in organic solvents and useful for a sublimation transfer recording method, etc.
This compound is represented by formula I [R is a (substituted) alkyl], e.g. a compound represented by formula II. The above compound represented by formula I is obtained by dissolving or suspending a 2- haloanthraquinone compound represented by formula III (X is a halogen) (e.g. 1-amino-2-chloro-4-hydroxyanthraquinone) in an organic solvent (e.g. N,N- dimethylformamide) and reacting the compound represented by formula III with thioglycolic acid ester represented by formula IV (e.g. n-octyl thioglycolate) in the presence of a deacidifying agent such as potassium hydrogencarbonate at 0-300°C reactional temperature for about 0.1-24 h reactional time.
