Abstract:
NEW MATERIAL:A compound of formula I (R1 is 1W9C alkyl; R2 is 1W8C hydrocarbon).
EXAMPLE: 1,5-Dihydroxy-2-(4'-n-butyloxyphenyl)-6-n-pentylanthraquinone.
USE: A multi-coloring dye for liquid crystals in the guest-host type display elements: it has a large order-parameter S and a large absorptivity, shows high stability to light, heat, water and so on and high solubility in liquid crystals.
PREPARATION: The reaction between an anthraquinone of formula II and an aldehyde of the formula: R2CHO gives the objective compound.
